Treating deciduous teeth

Why treat milk teeth, considering that they will be replaced by permanent teeth? There are many reasons.

  • The first dentition (milk teeth) is essential for the correct development of permanent dentition. The milk teeth maintain the shape of the dental arch and the space for permanent teeth. So losing a milk tooth often can mean having crowded and / or misplaced permanent teeth.
  • Milk teeth are necessary for proper mastication and phonation since pediatric age, and they play an essential role in the correct development of the mouth.
  • Milk teeth can be used as an anchor for orthodontic equipment.
  • Caring for milk teeth helps preventing the experience of “toothache” and the need for annoying, at times urgent and often less effective therapies.
  • Caring for milk teeth helps preventing the aesthetic discomfort of a smile that shows “black teeth”, or teeth with cavities.
