Nutrition and lifestyles

Nutrition has a decisive role in the prevention of tooth decay and in promoting the masticatory system’s correct development.

Some foods are more “DANGEROUS” than others, because they are rich in CARBOHYDRATES and SUGARS. It is necessary to avoid eating sugary foods, drinking fizzy drinks and fruit juices. Also certain fruits are particularly rich in sugars.

Cavity inducing action is linked to the quantity of sugars or carbohydrates contained in food or drink and to their degree of acidity.

Eliminating all such foods is impossible, so it is worth teaching children certain rules.
You can always discuss any questions you may have with your pediatrician or your pediatric dentistry and orthodontics specialist…

Children are growing organisms. As such, in order to grow healthy, they need a diet as varied as possible: not only carbohydrates, but also proteins, fats, vitamins and mineral salts.

There are good daily habits and bad daily habits.

We help patients recognize good daily habits which lead to great results through a small commitment .
It is important to teach children that everything can be tasted, in quantities proportionate to their age, giving them the freedom to gradually experiment with flavors, preferring fresh, locally grown food.

Nutrition changes during growth. It is important to favor an integrated balanced nutrition, making sure that all the nutrients necessary for growth are present.

A balanced diet is fundamental for the correct development of the face and mouth, it is equally mportant to pay attention to some crucial behaviors in favoring healthy body development.

A useful checklist:

– do engage in regular physical activity (in the form of play) favoring the symmetry of actions and learning of motor coordination;
– clean air ways (nasal cavities above all) and focus on labial competence (closed lips … not teeth), day and night.

  • NEVER give newborns a pacifier dipped in HONEY or SUGAR, even when teeth have not erupted yet. NEVER let your child fall asleep with a bottle of sweet CHAMOMILE or any sweet tea.
  • AVOID carbonated beverages and many athletes’ SUPPLEMENTS, and freeze dried (lyophilized) preparations
  • HOMEOPATHIC GRANULES and many MEDICATIONS contain considerable amounts of sugar. Remember to clean your child’s teeth after they take any such substances.
  • AVOID lifts and escalators (walk fast up the stairs)

  • Brush teeth after eating, even after a SNACK
  • Adopt a balanced diet and reduce sugar intake
  • Make sure children up to 10-12 years engage in different sports which promote symmetry and coordination

Following the mediterranean diet and an exercising an hour every day are known to improve and maintain health.
